Getting the gospel to remote communities through radio

November 2023

We were so excited to receive a visit from Galcom International, who work together with Christian radio stations in least-reached regions to spread the good news of Jesus Christ.

After a week of ministry in Loja, the team visited the Good Shepherd radio station in Saraguro. They hope to return here in the future to distribute solar-powered, fix-tuned radios to strategic communities to support ongoing discipleship initiatives.

Project: Kichwa audio Bible

These powerful solar-powered radios are tuned to the local Christian radio station, and also loaded with an audio Bible. We hope to include a Kichwa audio Bible on the device. However, there currently is no full version in the local dialect. So we’re undertaking the ambitious project of investigating, and then recording, to produce the whole audio Bible in Kichwa.

Project: discipleship movements in remote communities

This year we watched with joy as a couple of Saraguro believers took on the mantel of being disciples who make disciples.

A Bible study began with a family in the community of Gunudel, who were trained and given resources, and quickly took ownership of the ministry as they realised their part in the Great Commission.

Another leader who was trained up is now sharing this vision and resources with people in her network, reaching communities nearby, as well as in the jungle and the capital.

Before distributing solar-powered radios in Saraguro, we will be partnering with local churches to raise up disciple-makers and leaders to spark movements of discipleship in these more remote communities.

As we press farther out into more remote regions, it’s become evident that a car is necessary to take the gospel to these isolated locations.

Christmas evangelism campaign

December 2023

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Saraguro - bears and ájas are out, wikis and sarawis dance behind marching bands, the sky resounds with the bursts of pop rockets, and Markan-Taitas hand out lolly bags to children.

The local folk-Catholic celebrations feature much pageantry mixed with Incan customs and imagery. The few who actually hear any part of the Christmas story have their attention heavily drawn to Mary and the virgin birth.

This year, the local Christian churches are taking to the street to share the true message of Christmas: the wonder of Emmanuel, God come down to dwell among us as the fulfilment of God’s plan of salvation, the long-awaited hope realised.

This event will take place on the Sunday before Christmas, with an open air tent for evangelism, kids activities and prayer. Please pray that many will have ears to hear, and that God will open their eyes to see the glory of Jesus and the truth of what He came to accomplish.
