From an early age, Abby felt called to missions in South America. During a vision trip to Ecuador, God knit her heart to the indigenous people of Saraguro.
For Abby, it is a privilege to love and serve the Saraguros so that they can come to know Jesus for who He truly is.
Abby also leads the ‘Planting and Strengthening Rural Churches’ ministry team in SIM Ecuador, supporting church-planting missionaries across the Loja province - the least-reached region of Ecuador.
So far Abby has served for 5 years in Ecuador, and hopes to continue for many years to come.
The Saraguros are an indigenous people group in the mountains of southern Ecuador. They live under a syncretised mix of Roman Catholicism and animistic Incan beliefs. The Virgin Mary is central to their worship, religious authorities restrict the people from accessing the Bible for themselves, and the reality of a personal relationship with Jesus is largely unknown.
In her first term in Ecuador, Abby predominantly served in children’s ministry, as she established herself among the community, built relationships and learned the culture.
Since returning to Saraguro after the pandemic God has reoriented the ministry to focus on making disciples who make disciples, and ignite disciple-making movements across the region. Abby has been raising up local believers with simple and reproducible tools, and developing leaders, with one purpose: to see a movement of Saraguros reaching Saraguros with the good news of Jesus Christ.
